InVertigo is a German prog band that recorded a debut album with only six songs that last approximately 52 minutes. This probably is a nice record ... and indeed it is. The music is a blend of neo-prog and pop-rock. Singer Sebastian Brennert has a nice voice which leads us smoothly through these medium-long songs. Of course, these songs contain some extended instrumental passages, but these never turn into a 'look-momma-I-can-do-it-without-hands' freak show. InVertigo makes the music Sylvan or even RPWL could have made if these bands would have been a bit more commercial. Fortunately, InVertigo steers clear of the overly commercial pitfall. The songs have just that bit of an edge to keep them - despite their easy-to-the-ear sound - interesting for the die-hard prog fan. Especially The Night and the mini-epic Special are enjoyable, because of the breaks and tempo shifts and a slight Yes-touch from the Drama-period (1980). With this InVertigo has delivered a debut album which puts the band on the prog map and hopefully on the bill of some of summer festivals as well.

Vertigo 07:28
I can feel it coming, rushing through my veins, heading for my senses, heading for my brains. I lay down on the ground and let it reign – here it comes again. I feel it in my fingertips, an icy kind of heat. Its moving to the very bottom of my naked feet. I reach out and clutch some objects in the air, even though there’s nothing there Body and soul, out of control. So here we go: VER-TI-GO I realize I find myself inside a giant maze. I turn around and start to run, that’s when I see your face. Like coral reefs at night your eyes do shine – I want to make you mine. So I reach out to hold you, but suddenly I find I cannot move a single joint, I guess I’m paralyzed. I sink into a bed that’s made of clay and watch you melt away Body and soul, out of control. So here we go: VER-TI-GO Now there’s darkness all around me and I’m left here all alone. Lying nakedly, face to face with the moist soil, and like a snail I start to crawl. I leave a slimy track behind me as I head for some luminous plants. And as my hunger grows unbearably strong I touch the soil with the tip of my tongue ... Body and soul, out of control. So here we go: VER-TI-GO Coming back to life now I look around and see: The room is full of people, people just like me. Cold sweat is oozing from my aching pores - Do I really want more? One day there will be calmness, one day when I am free. But will I have the strength to leave it all behind me? One Day I’ll have the power to say ‘No’ – Farewell, sweet vertigo! Body and soul, out of control. So here we go: VER-TI-GO

The Night 08:58
It’s late at night and you can’t fall asleep again – but you don’t want to anyway. You know when you’re out on your own what a waste it would be to go home – at this time of night. There’s a certain hunger to still, you’re burning with a fever that you know just too well. There’s no sense in trying to fight it – but you don’t want to anyway And you dance the night away. You dance your shame away. You dance the night away. You dance your pain away. You know this has happened too many times before. You won’t go as far as last time tonight, that’s what you swore. But resistance is low when your alcohol level rises high. It’s already too late now so you let yourself go as you wave reason goodbye … And you dance the night away. You’re dance your shame away. Don’t think ‘bout tomorrow, there’s only today. And another fatal affair is already on its way, on its way ... If you just knew what it is that you want you would surely be likely to stop. But each step you take and each drink lead you on and it’s harder and harder to stop Maybe you don’t want to stop anymore, anymore. So you just let it happen, let it happen, let it happen, happen ... Still dancing the night away ...

When he was still a young boy he used to go to school. He always paid attention, obeying all the rules. He never did a thing the other kids considered cool, doing everything correctly, being everybody’s fool. But he wanted to be somebody special, he wanted to be somebody new. He wanted to step out of his innocence. But how? He didn’t have a clue. He kept telling himself that his whole life was a mess. He neither had no girlfriend nor buddies to impress. His parents to the left of him, his classmates to the right – for sure he’d escape that night and leave them all behind. For he wanted to be somebody special, he wanted to be somebody new. He knew somehow he’s gonna make it, he almost believed that it was true. ‘Why don’t you go and join a club’, his mummy said. ‘You’d better read a good book’, said his dad. ‘Do this and don’t do that’ – they’re driving him mad. His bags are already packed. Maybe hitchhike to Brussels or Amsterdam, jump on a train or a van. By the break of the day I’ll be on my way and I don’t care ‘bout what they might say. I just need a little rest … Here I am, Everything’s perfect, somebody special at last. Nothing can stop me now that I’ve made it - don’t ever think of the past! When he woke up in the morning breakfast was already made. ‘Get out of bed’, a familiar voice said, ‘Otherwise you will be late.’ The great escape that he had planned is being postponed again. Dreaming is easy and life can be hard – but you’ve got to face it, my friend.

You know what I mean, ‘coz you’re the point. In the middle of the road I found the line. It’s like a paranoiac knocking on my door, and I don’t think that I can stand it anymore. The way I feel is the way I live, the way I live is the way I feel. Don’t cross my way ‘cause I don’t care about you. It showed pretty clearly all over your face that all you ever wanted was to own me completely. In my head is my life and nowhere else. The way I feel is the way I live, the way I live is the way I feel. You don’t know who I am, don’t know where I’m from. But I assure you, you’ll only see my back. I hate it when you say you don’t know, `cause you do know - don’t think of the past, it’s all over now. The way I feel is the way I live, the way I live is the way I feel. I can´t trust anyone, it’s the last mile I walk. I hope one day you’ll see the truth, then all these wars will be over. You’d better take your time and see what comes out. You’d better take your time and see what comes out. I can´t trust anyone, it’s the last mile I walk. I hope one day you’ll see the truth, then all these wars will be over.

In the city, fading daylight. Time has come for you to seize the day. Though it sometimes doesn’t feel right you get up and start to make your way. Shadows chase away the worn day as you walk the streets towards your aim. You see slaughtered lambs on Broadway and the heavy air just smells like rain. You reach the subway and you’re movin’ down, feel the coolness here beneath the ground. Lights are fading as you enter the heart of darkness and you don’t make a sound. Take care don’t wake up the shadow below. Just get ready for your ‘One-Man-Show’. You start to write your name all over the walls of this dungeon, where no-one else ever goes. And you dream of another life of a better life . And you scream for a better life at the end of night. The shadow wakes up but you’re unaware. Soon you will meet it up at Time Square. Your eyes are open as you’re leaving the maze of madness, you’re walking towards the stairs. And you dream of another life of a better life. And you scream for a better life at the end of night.

Waking up on Monday, what's it like? I'm feeling like I'm paralyzed, Waking up on Tuesday, it's no better. Maybe it's because of the weather. On Wednesday its the same. We're still playing the same old game. Thursday arrives with a glimpse of hope. On Friday I’m at the end of a burning rope. But Saturday evening I'm free, Saturday evening it's just me. Dancing, drinking, loving, thinking, moving, shouting out what’s in my mind. Every day it‘s nine to five, when will there be an end to all this struggle and strife? Is this really all that I live for? There’s only one thing that’s for certain, one thing that’s for sure: Saturday evening I'm free, Saturday evening it's just me. Dancing, drinking, loving, thinking, moving, shouting out what’s in my mind. Saturday evening I'm free, Saturday evening it's just me. Dancing, drinking, loving, thinking, moving, shouting out what’s in my mind. Saturday evening I'm free...
